Whether you’re traveling or travel hacking, you’re going to need at least one go-to credit card for traveling domestically and abroad.

The best travel credit cards are cards that are from major banks that are accepted internationally, do not charge international fees, and earn you points that can be redeemed for more travel opportunities.

I like flexible points like Chase Ultimate Rewards, Capital One Points, or American Express Membership Rewards. These points and rewards can be transferred to different airlines or hotels to be redeemed for flights or free hotel stays.

My Top 3 Favorite Credit Cards for Traveling

There are 3 travel credit cards that I prefer to use on a regular basis to earn points for travel and they are also the ones that I always travel with.

Chase sapphire preferred

My CSP is my #1 card for every day purchases and travel. It’s a Visa so is accepted everywhere and you earn 3x points on dining. It comes with great built in travel protection when you make travel purchases with this card.

Other perks include an annual hotel credit, extended warranty protection on purchases, and complimentary DashPass membership.

My favorite way to use Chase Ultimate Rewards points is transferring them to Hyatt for free hotel stays at family-friendly and luxury resorts!

This card comes with tons of great benefits that offset the high fee. It also includes many great luxury perks like Gold status at Hilton Hotels, Gold Elite Status with Marriott, and complimentary Priority Pass Membership which grants access to lounges at airports worldwide.

There are also some great every-day perks such as Walmart+ membership, monthly Entertainment credits for streaming services or subscriptions, and monthly Uber credits that can also be used for Uber Eats. I prefer to transfer my Membership Rewards Points to airlines for upgrading to business class flights for longer trips.

Bonus Debit Card Recommendation for Traveling

As an added bonus, my favorite Debit Card for traveling is my SoFi card. It’s easy to transfer money from my savings buckets to my checking to use for purchases. There are no foreign transaction fees when using this card.

For safety, I do get a text alert when making purchases outside of major retailers in foreign countries. When making a larger purchase for an excursion, our initial transaction was declined. I was immediately sent a text message to verify that it was me.

Upon responding yes, I was able to initiate the transaction again and it was approved immediately. While it can be slightly inconvenient because it takes just a minute longer, I do like that extra security layer because I know that my transaction and card is safe.
